One of the leading candidates for the Republican nomination for president in 2012, Mike Huckabee leaves no stones unturned when it comes to his backing for Israel.
Huckabee, his family and friends, are in the Jewish state. For the former Arkansas governor it is his fifteenth visit. "Headed to Israel with family and friends. Looking forward to my 15th trip there," Huckabee tweeted on Saturday.
No stranger to controversy the 2008 presidential candidate, who is now a Fox News commentator, recently said whoever leaked the information to WikiLeaks that has been published by several newspapers and other media in recent weeks should be tried for treason, and if found guilty he should be executed.
“Whoever in our government leaked that information is guilty of treason, and I think anything less than execution is too kind a penalty,” Huckabee said in an interview.
He recently addressed the annual Beit El yeshiva dinner in New York and has often said if the Arabs in Judea, Samaria and Gaza want a state, they can choose from among several Arab nations.
On a visit to Israel in August 2008 Huckabee said, "There are many, many places where a homeland for the Palestinians could in fact take place that would be consistent with their roots. But there is only one place on earth where the Jewish people could have a homeland that is consistent with their roots."
"The question shouldn't be 'Do Arabs have a right to live in Jewish territory,'" said Huckabee, "but, 'Do Jews have a right to live in Jewish territory?'"
This week the former governor will visit the Israeli Knesset, where he will meet with the Immigration and Absorption Committee.
Another recent visitor to Israel was another 2008 presidential candidate who is also expected to throw his hat in the ring in 2012, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.
